MIDDLETOWN , Iowa -- The 2005 racing season is winding down but the action at the local 3/8 mile track continues to be a crowd pleaser.

4 cylinder wild things. Getting wins on the night were Dean McGee, Sr. (modifieds), Galesburg, Il., Brandon Rothzen (hobby stocks), Media, Il., Doug Fenton and Derek Goble (thunder cars), Burlington and Michael Grossman (wild things), Keokuk.

2005 track champion, Tom Goble looked to be on his way to his nineth modified feature win this year pulling away from the field early. After the first caution of the race came out on lap nine Jeff Gerhardt was able to cut into Goble¹s lead narrowing the gap. As the race went on Goble started developing car problems and eventually pulled in giving Gerhardt the lead on lap seventeen of the twenty lap feature. With Gerhardt in the lead Dean McGee was closing in from his last row start. On the final lap McGee made a move around Gehardt in turn four and went on to take the checkered flag for the second time this year going from last to first. Gerhardt finished second and Darin Thye took third.

Plenty of three wide racing was seen in the hobby stock feature with the win going to Brandon Rothzen of Media, Illinois, his second this year. A red flag came out on the first lap when Gorden Blankenship Jr. took a scary roll on the back stretch flipping several times before coming to rest on his top. Although shaken up, Blankenship appeared to be OK.
